Nyko PlayCube for GCN
Nyko PlayCube for GCN
Are you tired of that comfortable feeling you get every time you use a GAMECUBE controller? Are you a Sony fanboy deep down and wish there was a way to feel like youre playing your precious PlayStation while playing a GCN game? Well, your prayers have been answered by NYKO and its new accessory, the PLAYCUBE! With this little gem, you can actually use your good ole PS controller on your Cube! Simply just plug the device into a local GAMECUBE and then plug your PlayStation Duel Shock 2(DS2) controller into the PLAYCUBE.
The PlayCube is actually a clever little device that comes in handy. Even though the GCN controller is great, there are still a few people who feel more at home with their old pal, the Duel Shock 2. Nyko gives gamers a chance to chose their weapon of choice depending on ones preference and situation.
The PlayCube is not a bad buy when it comes right down to it. Unlike most 3rd party merchandise, it is pretty reliable; I have yet to notice any delay in reaction or glitch of any sort. It responds just as quickly as the standard GCN controller.
The button-scheme is odd at first, but you get used to it. First off, the left DS2 analog stick acts as the GCN main stick and the DS2 control pad acts as the GCN control pad. Thats pretty much the most complex part. Other than that, X acts as A, B is square, Y is triangle and X is O. As for shoulder buttons, L2 and R2 are L and R while R1/L1 are both Z. Also, C-stick is represented by the right analog stick. Simple enough, eh?
The only bad side of using a PS controller on the Cube is that some games are specifically designed for the GCN controller, making the DS2 seem sort of awkward.
Also, the analog stick on the DS2 and GCN are different. I dont really know how to explain it. Its like there is a difference resistance level between the 2 controllers. I am still getting used to performing smash moves on Super Smash Bros.: Melee using the Duel Shock 2. Other than that, every things just dandy.
Overall, the PlayCube is very solid. In fact, I advise buying this if youre a fighting fan due to the DS2 button layout compared to the GCN one. DS2 definitely holds it own when being used for 3rd party games but is not the best choice for GCN controller-specific games such as Super Smash Bros.: Melee. I suggest the NYKO PlayCube for any PlayStation fan or anyone who foresees any limitations with the GameCube Controller.
