Nintendo: Fighting The Good Fight
Nintendo: Fighting The Good Fight
Nintendo fans have the reputation for being...enthusiastic about their favorite developer. Some would say passionate or even zealous. However you want to paint them, Nintendo fans are...Nintendo fans. Fiercely loyal to their beloved developer, prepare for a reaction if you utter anything of a negative nature about Nintendo or their franchises around a Nintendo fan. Im not sure where the term fanboy came from originally, but the term gets used frequently when talking about Nintendos followers.
Where does this loyalty come from? The main reason is the games. Like any good artist, Nintendos games make you feel. They evoke emotion out of you like watching a good movie or reading a good book. Their games seem to be more than the sum of their parts. When you play a Nintendo game, it feels like a living, breathing experience, not just an organized design of polygons and lines of code. As you venture further into your Nintendo game, you see that everything about the game reeks of quality. You start to notice the little details in the graphics, the beauty and the atmosphere in the music and the intuitiveness of the controls. It all comes together until you, the player, get what Nintendo fans call that feeling." You realize that what you are playing wasnt just developed, it was finely crafted with a lot of care. When you put out THAT kind of quality on a regular basis, youre going to develop a loyal following.
Another reason is Nintendos history. Nintendo fans love to reminisce about Nintendos past. Once upon a time, Nintendo ruled this video game industry as no one ever has, including Sony today. Mario was practically a god in the eyes of just about every kid on the planet. Nintendo was putting out games for their systems that were defining the way video games would be made and played. A lot of people who are Nintendo fans are so because they grew up with Nintendos games during this time. These games were a part of their childhood and growing up years. It was a special time for video games and the video game industry. Today, its remembered as The Golden Age of Gaming. Even non-Nintendo fans acknowledge this for the most part.
