Software: Top Ten
After numerous weeks of holding the top spot amongst the Japanese sales charts, the Nintendo DS took a step behind the anticipated Japanese release of Final Fantasy 7: Dirge of Cerberus. While the consensus opinion in regards to the spin-off game hasn't been praiseworthy, the Japanese public thought it deserving enough to claim this week's top spot, as the game sold nearly four hundred thousand copies in its opening week.
DS games however did remain amongst the top games sold in the previous week. The newly released English Training, one in a long series of "non-games" published by Nintendo made its debut selling two-hundred and forty thousand copies. The week between January 23rd and the 29th also saw the continued success of DS titles such as Animal Crossing: Wild World, Mario Kart DS, and Brain Training DS.
In total the portable comprised six out of the top ten positions with the Playstation 2 and PSP platforms contributing to the remainder of the chart. Hardware numbers for the previous week are expected to emerge tomorrow afternoon. Stick with AMN for continued coverage of the Japanese gaming industry.
