Nintendo Profitable Again
Nintendo Profitable Again
While Thanksgiving isn't really celebrated in Japan, Nintendo has a lot to be thankful for. Today, the company announced that it has returned to profit in the first half of the fiscal year. The return follows last year's 2.9 million yen loss.
Nintendo's net profit was 46.4 billion yen (US$451 million) for the six month period that ended September 30th, 2004. Despite a drop in sales, Nintendo said it was able to return to profitability due not having to deal with losses from unfavorable exhange rates.
Nintendo is now projecting a 90 billion yen (US$875 million) profit for the full fiscal year, despite decreasing hardware sales. Increases in software sales have made up and exceeded the difference. It is important to note that Nintendo does expect a jump in hardware sales from the DS, which the company hopes will appeal to a wide audience.
