E3: G4 Interviews Reggie
E3: G4 Interviews Reggie
Just a short time ago, G4 interviewed the man who is probably now the most recognizable spokesperson for Nintendo, Reginald Fils-Aime. Reggie seemingly stuck to the gameplan in not letting anything significant slip but he clarified a few things.
He confirmed once more that Nintendo doesn't really see itself in competition with Sony and Microsoft in this generation. He said that they are fighting to become the all-in-one box in the living room while Nintendo has what is being called "a gaming soul." He did state that Revolution would be a powerful system, but didn't go into any more details.
Reggie also mentioned, once again, that the controllers for Revolution would be shown at a later date. However, when pressed on the issue of the controller, Reggie also said that part of it fits the announced "backwards compatibility" that will allow the Revolution to play Nintendo system games from the NES upward.
Reggie mentioned that each system, NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube all had very different controllers and the Revolution controller would be able to handle all of these games. That statement is likely to fuel even more touch screen/touch pad debates, despite Nintendo's denial the controller will sport any such gizmo.
Finally, on the subject of Game Boy Micro, Nintendo's tiny new lit-screen GBA, Reggie talked about who the target audience was and about the battery life. Reggie stated the target audience is the teen set who don't want to carry anything bulky around on them and want something that can easily be shoved into a pocket. He also estimated that the battery life for the console is just slightly below that of the GBA SP, clocking in at around 7 or 8 hours, which he mentioned was "more" than anyone would need.
Also of note, G4 ran an interview with Miyamoto soon after. Miyamoto spoke about how Nintendo didn't want to reveal the Revolution controllers yet because they are what makes the system unique and he is afraid that the other companies would steal Nintendo's ideas. This is hardly news as it has been the company line for some time now. However, this seems to indicate that it might be some time before Nintendo finally shows what Revolution is really all about.
